He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, the gel doing little to tame the chaos within. The wedding. His best friend’s wedding. He’d booked the earliest flight he could, just to be sure. Now, the airport PA system coughed out an announcement, the familiar delay notification, sending a spike of heat through his chest. He grabbed his phone, his thumb hammering at the screen, desperately searching for another flight, any flight. His breathing hitched, shallow and rapid. He imagined the ceremony, the vows, the speeches… all happening without him.
